Join us for a one-day lecture and hands-on workshop with Dr. Shaun Rotenberg, DMD, MS.
The course will take place on September 26, 2025 in Charleston, SC at Poogan's Courtyard in Historic Downtown Charleston.
You will earn 7 CE hours for this event; breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Course Description:
The need for hard and soft tissue augmentation in preparation for implant placement and restoration is determined at the time of tooth extraction. The more severe the defect, the more hard and soft tissue reconstruction will be needed to create an esthetic result, especially in the anterior. Techniques in guided bone regeneration (GBR) and soft tissue augmentation have improved significantly over the years. Our ability to augment bone is now more predictable and successful; however, traditional techniques utilized during socket reconstruction can actually have a negative effect on the final esthetic result. These include papilla loss, loss of keratinized tissue, and apical migration of the gingival margin. The purpose of this course is to educate clinicians on how to predictably manage and enhance the soft tissue from extraction all the way to final restoration in even the most severe defects.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this hands on workshop, participants should be able to:
- Identify the periodontal anatomy that is being preserved during extraction and socket reconstruction to achieve an ideal esthetic result
- Perform multiple techniques and utilize novel materials, both allograft and xenograft, to preserve and enhance the natural anatomy at the time of extraction
- Understand the rationale for technique selection based on the situation presented
- Discuss proper treatment timelines based on technique selection
- Use described techniques and materials to improve the health and esthetics of dental implants at the time of placement
Hands-On Workshop Overview
- Hands-on with pig jaws
- Handling, preparation and use of Cytoplast Microderm, Zderm, and TXT-200 dPTFE membrane
- Practice advanced minimally invasive recipient site techniques utilizing a vestibular access
- Practice recipient site suturing techniques with various suture materials
